BISSELL SpotClean ProHeat Portable Carpet Cleaner
Actually extracting, rather than cleaning and hoping

The verdict
If the carpets are genuinely soiled, buy an extractor — the BISSELL SpotClean is the cheapest machine that sprays, agitates and pulls the dirty water back out, which is the whole job. For individual stains, Folex removes things that automotive products leave behind.
02
Why extraction matters
Cleaning carpet without extraction means applying a solution, agitating it, and then leaving most of it in the pile along with whatever it dissolved. The carpet looks better because the dirt is now evenly distributed and diluted. It is not clean, and as it dries the dissolved soil wicks back toward the surface.
An extractor sprays, agitates and vacuums the solution back out, removing the dirt with it. That is the difference between carpet that is clean and carpet that is damp and slightly less brown.

BISSELL SpotClean ProHeat Portable Carpet Cleaner
Best for: Actually extracting, rather than cleaning and hoping
The difference between a cleaned carpet and a wet one is extraction, and this is the cheapest machine that does it properly. It sprays, agitates and pulls the dirty water back out, which is the whole job.
Who should skip it. Light interior maintenance. It is a machine to store and clean after use, and for anything less than genuinely soiled carpet a spray and a brush is quicker.

What works
Actually extracts the dirty water rather than leaving it
Heated water lifts more than cold
Works on house carpet too, which helps justify it
What does not
Overkill for routine interior maintenance
Needs cleaning and drying after every use
BISSELL does not publish a tank capacity we could verify
Folex has an outsized reputation among detailers for a reason: it removes set-in stains that automotive fabric cleaners leave behind, and it does not need rinsing. It is a household product doing a detailing job better than the detailing products.
Who should skip it. General cleaning. It is a spot treatment and using it across a whole carpet is wasteful and unnecessary.

Carbona 2-in-1 Oxy-Powered Carpet Spot Cleaner
Best for: Organic stains — coffee, food, anything that smells
Oxygen-based chemistry works on organic staining in a way that surfactant cleaners do not, which makes this the right bottle for spilled coffee and old food rather than general grime. Includes a brush cap for agitation.
Who should skip it. Oil and grease. Oxy chemistry is for organic staining; petroleum-based marks want a solvent or a dedicated degreaser.

Chemical Guys Foaming Citrus Fabric and Carpet Cleaner
Best for: Cloth seats and carpet without soaking them
The foam is the point: it carries the cleaner into the fiber without saturating the padding underneath, which is what causes a car to smell damp for a month. Agitate with a brush, then extract or blot.
Who should skip it. Set-in stains. Foam cleaners lift surface soiling well and old stains barely at all — those want a dedicated spot remover or an extractor.

Ease of use
9.0
Value
9.0
What works
Foam limits how wet the padding gets
Pleasant citrus rather than a chemical smell
Cheap enough to use generously
What does not
Weak on set-in stains
Needs mechanical agitation to work at all
Still possible to over-wet if you are heavy-handed
Vacuum thoroughly, pre-treat stains, apply cleaner one footwell at a time, agitate with a stiff brush, then extract or blot hard. Extraction is what separates cleaned carpet from damp carpet — without it, most of the dissolved dirt stays in the pile.
Do you need a carpet extractor for a car?
For genuinely soiled carpets, it makes a real difference. For a couple of stains or light soiling, a spot treatment and a brush is enough. If the carpets are the only reason to buy a machine, rent one for an afternoon first.
How do you get stains out of car carpet?
Match the chemistry to the stain. Oxy cleaners handle organic stains like coffee and food; solvent treatments handle grease and oil; enzyme cleaners handle pet accidents including the odor. Using oxy on grease does nothing at all.
How long does car carpet take to dry?
Several hours with the windows open, longer in humid weather, and far longer if you over-wet it. Run a fan into the footwell if you can. A closed car with damp carpet will smell within a day or two.
