Affiliate disclosure

Iron Mako Media earns a commission when you buy through our links. Here is exactly how that works and what it does not change.

By Mike M.Updated

The short version

Detailing & Wax is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click a buy link on this site and purchase something, Amazon pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay nothing extra. The price you pay is the same as it would be if you had navigated to Amazon directly.

Every buy link on this site goes through our own /go address before redirecting you to Amazon. That is a technical convenience — it lets us manage links in one place — and it is not a tracking mechanism beyond the standard Amazon affiliate tag.

  • Every commercial link is marked rel="sponsored nofollow", which is the standard way of telling search engines a link is monetized.
  • Every buy button carries an `#ad` label linking back to this page.
  • Every commercial page carries a disclosure line above the first affiliate link, not buried at the bottom.
  • Links to manufacturer specification pages are not affiliate links. Those are citations and they earn us nothing.

What this does and does not influence

It is worth being specific, because “we may earn a commission” is usually where sites stop.

  • It does give us an interest in you buying something. That is a real conflict and it is why we are naming it here rather than implying we are above it.
  • It does not give us an interest in any particular product, because the commission is a percentage of whatever you buy rather than a per-product fee.
  • Nothing on this site is ordered by commission rate. The rankings reflect our editorial judgment of the published evidence, set out on how we pick.
  • We recommend cheaper products regularly, which costs us money and is sometimes simply the right answer.
  • We tell people not to buy things. The starter-kit guide's main advice is to not buy a polisher yet, and the beginner polisher page says to skip the upgrade if you already own a competent machine.

Prices

Prices shown on this site are pulled from Amazon automatically and carry the date they were last checked. They expire after 48 hours, at which point the button falls back to “Check price at Amazon” rather than showing a number we cannot stand behind.

The price on Amazon at the time you buy is the one that applies. Prices change constantly and anything shown here is a snapshot.

Other retailers

At the time of writing, every commercial link on this site goes to Amazon. We are not affiliated with any other retailer, and links to manufacturer websites are citations for published specifications rather than ways to buy.

If that changes — if we join another retailer's program — this page will be updated to say so before any such link appears on the site.

Who publishes this

Detailing & Wax is published by Iron Mako Media. The site is written under a single byline, Mike M., and there is more about who that is on the about page.

Questions people actually ask

Does using your links cost me more?
No. The price you pay on Amazon is identical whether you arrive through our link or navigate there directly. Amazon pays the commission out of its own margin.
Are your rankings influenced by commission?
No. The commission is a percentage of whatever you buy rather than a per-product fee, so we have no financial reason to prefer one product over another — and several pages here recommend the cheapest option, which costs us money.
Do brands pay you for placement?
No. No brand has paid for placement, been shown a page before publication, or supplied free product. If that ever changes it will be disclosed on the page concerned, not only here.
Why do your links go through a /go address?
It lets us manage every commercial link in one place rather than editing hundreds of pages if something changes. It redirects you straight to Amazon and does not track anything beyond the standard affiliate tag.
