The verdict
Buy a sealant. For the overwhelming majority of daily drivers, a polymer sealant twice a year gives most of a coating's practical benefit for an hour of work and no cure conditions — and nobody recommends it because it is not exciting.

CARPRO CQUARTZ UK 3.0 Ceramic Coating Kit
Best for: A real coating that forgives a cooler, damper garage
The UK formulation exists specifically because the original CQuartz was difficult to work with in cold, humid conditions — which describes most home garages for half the year. It flashes more predictably at lower temperatures, and that single property makes it the easier real coating to install well.
Who should skip it. Anyone expecting the outright durability of the top tier. UK 3.0 trades some claimed life for a far wider application window, and that is a deliberate and sensible trade for a driveway installation.

What works
Formulated for cooler, damper conditions — the real-garage coating
Comes as a kit, so nothing essential is missing
Far more forgiving flash window than the top-tier coatings
What does not
Shorter claimed life than Crystal Serum Light
Still wants a corrected, panel-wiped surface
50 ml is enough for one car and little margin for error
Power Lock Plus is the durability benchmark among consumer sealants, and it applies as easily as anything here — thin coat, short cure, wipe off. If the goal is to protect a car properly and not think about it for six months, this is the product.
Who should skip it. Carnauba warmth. A polymer sealant looks sharp and glassy, and on dark paint some people genuinely prefer the softer carnauba look.

845 is a carnauba and polymer hybrid originally formulated for electrical insulators, and it is the most durable thing in this roundup that still calls itself a wax. Six months outdoors is realistic where a pure carnauba manages six weeks.
Who should skip it. Anyone chasing the deepest carnauba glow. 845 looks good rather than spectacular, and it is thin and runny out of the bottle, which takes getting used to.

What works
Comfortably the longest-lasting wax here
Genuinely cheap per application
Excellent in winter and on cars that live outdoors
What does not
Thin and runny — easy to over-apply on the first try
Less depth than a dedicated show carnauba
Collinite does not publish a bottle volume we could verify
CanCoat sits between a spray and a real coating: it goes on like a spray wax but cures to something closer to a thin coating, and it lasts a season rather than a month. For a daily driver that gets washed regularly, this is the honest sweet spot of this whole category.
Who should skip it. Anyone expecting multi-year durability. It is not a replacement for a real coating and GYEON does not pretend it is — it is the product for people who would rather spend twenty minutes three times a year.

What works
Genuinely close to coating behavior for a fraction of the work
Works on glass, trim and wheels as well as paint
Very hard to apply badly — levels easily
What does not
Six months, not years — this is the trade you are making
Costs more than a conventional spray coating
GYEON does not publish a bottle volume we could verify
A modern polymer sealant protects for most of a year, applies in an hour with no special conditions, and can go on without correcting the paint first. It gives up the hardness and the multi-year life of a coating and almost nothing else that a daily driver notices.
The reason nobody recommends it is that coatings are more interesting to write about and more profitable to sell. Twice a year, an hour each time, and the car is protected — that is a genuinely good answer for most people, and our sealant roundup has the picks.

The decision table
One answer per situation
Your situation
Buy
Daily driver, hand washed, no garage
A sealant
Daily driver, brush automatic washes
A wax — the others get marred away
Car you keep for years, garage, willing to correct
A ceramic coating
Leased car going back in two years
A sealant or a spray coating
Show car or weekend car, dark paint
A carnauba wax, for the look
Already coated, beading has dropped off
An SiO2 spray, not a wax
Want the least work possible, forever
A spray coating three times a year

Questions people actually ask
Should I use wax, sealant or ceramic coating?
A sealant, for most daily drivers — most of a coating's practical benefit for an hour of work and no cure conditions. A coating if you hand-wash, keep cars for years and will correct the paint first. A wax if the car sees brush washes or you simply enjoy waxing.
Can you layer wax over a sealant?
Yes, and it is a sensible combination. Let the sealant cure fully first — usually around 12 hours — then the sealant does the protecting and the carnauba adds warmth on top. Applying the wax too early interferes with the sealant bonding.
What lasts longest, wax, sealant or ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating, by a wide margin — one to three years against four to eight months for a sealant and four to eight weeks for carnauba. The coating also demands the most prep, the most specific cure conditions and the most careful aftercare to reach its claimed life.
Is a sealant the same as a ceramic coating?
No. A sealant is a polymer layer that bonds loosely and wears off over months; a coating is a silica film that cross-links into a hard layer bonded to the clear coat and has to be polished off. Sealants are far more forgiving to apply.
